Red Bull SoundClash is back. Rest will face off against Redzed
Two completely different artists, two stages, six rounds and one winner – this unique concept of a musical battle returns to Prague after 12 years. REST and REDZED are going to put on an unprecedented show on November 30 at Forum Karlín, in which they will fight for who will captivate the audience more, because that will decide the winner.
Performers compete in six rounds, in each of which a different task awaits them, when they will be pushed to the limits of their creative possibilities. Their effort will be to get the audience on their side, because that is what will decide the winner. The one who puts on the bigger show, musical versatility and ingenuity will go home as the winner crowned based on the volume of applause and screams from the audience. Want to be there? The first ever Red Bull SoundClash took place in the Netherlands in 2006. Since then, this format has been regularly pumping up audiences – it’s happened more than 85 times around the world! In the Czech Republic, this musical battle took place twice: in 2010, in the premiere year, Tata Bojs faced Monkey Business, when Tata Bojs won by a clear margin, and a year later, David Koller won over the now defunct Nightwork group.
Who is who?
REST is one of the most prominent figures of the Czech rap scene. Not only his reputation as a freestyle star brought him to its peak, but also the solo albums he put together under the home label Ty Nikdy. During his career, he collaborated with the best local producers, including DJ Fatte and DJ Wich. And it was for the album in collaboration with DJ Wich that he received a platinum record and a nomination for the rap Anděl Award. Of course, his work changes over time. But what remains without a doubt is the love for the hip-hop genre “boom bap”.
And how does Red Bull perceive SoundClash? “It will be a powerful and probably unrepeatable experience both for me, my band, and for all our fans who will come to the event. It’s something that happens once every few years, and if I turned it down, I’d probably regret it for the rest of my life. For me personally, this is also a great success in my career. I am happy and proud to be a part of this giant event together with Champion sound, and we will give our absolute best there.”
REDZED is a Czech rapper and music producer who discovered his love for music at the age of fourteen when he started playing the guitar. His greatest strength is the art of combining rap and genres such as nu metal or heavy metal. Even though he is a native of Hustopečí, he chose English for his work because of better sonority. This is also the reason why REDZED is one of the most listened to Czech artists globally. His most famous song “Rave in the Grave” has already been streamed more than 62,400,000 times on Spotify.
As he himself says: “Red Bull SoundClash will be an interesting experience and an exit from the comfort zone.” And he does not underestimate the preparation either: “I will make beats and write bars. Then I’ll show it to the band and we’ll drill it.’
How it will be?
This epic musical battle takes place in six intense rounds where artists must push their creative limits to win the favor of the audience. In the first round, each artist will play three of their biggest hits to get the fans going. In the second round, the performers will bring to the stage the most famous world hits in their style and genre. In the third round, each of the artists chooses one of his songs, but in the middle, the other one steals it and finishes it in his own way. In the fourth round, the contestants step out of their comfort zone. Everyone chooses one of their own songs, which they play in a different genre (e.g. country, reggae, …). In the fifth round, teams of individual artists will bring a musical guest to the stage, with whom each performer will launch their penultimate performance. In the sixth final round, the audience will decide who will win.
The evening will be accompanied by rapper Orion and presenter Zuzana Tvarůžková. DJ Nobodylisten will take care of the audience warm-up and the after party.
